Description
Cabo Roig, the Costa Blancas's Pearl
Cabo Roig is a beautiful urbanization on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in the south of the Costa Blanca, belonging to Orihuela Costa and is one of the most exclusive areas of the Costa Blanca. As its name indicates, Cabo Roig is a headland that goes into the sea and therefore is surrounded by beaches, all of them with a blue flag. The name "Cabo Roig" translates from the Valencian "Red Cape" given by the red rock that forms this cape.
One of the main characteristics of Cabo Roig is its low density of buildings, where most of the properties are villas on large plots very close to the coast line. This together with its famous white, sandy beaches and the wide range of activities of all kinds related to the sea, the proximity to the La Zenia Boulevard Shopping Centre and the golf courses of Campoamor and Villamartin, make this town a real paradise and a privileged place to spend a holiday, stay long term or even establish your permanent residence.
A beautiful and romantic promenade allows you to walk along the entire coastline and connects with the adjacent urbanizations. In the future it is planned to reach the towns of Torrevieja and Torre de la Horadada. A well-known reference point is the historic tower built in the 16th century as a defence against pirates. Next to this tower are the offices of the real estate company Mevilla.
Walking or cycling along the quiet streets and avenues of Cabo Roig, surrounded by large palm trees, while observing the well-tended gardens and beautiful single-family houses on each side, while enjoying the sea breeze, make this area a real oasis of peace and a real delight for the senses.

History of Cabo Roig
The origin of the population of Cabo Roig is due to the construction of a tower during the 16th century in order to watch over the coast and prevent attacks by Berber pirates. Its location on the cape gave it a much wider vision of the maritime area it watched over.
In the 1940ies the finca of Cabo Roig was bought by a farmer from Murcia who was seeking a property by the sea for his daughter who suffered from asthma. At that time Cabo Roig was still rural land and many in his village would laugh about him buying a melon field by the sea. Since tourism started to boom in the 1970ies they soon proved wrong. Still many of the family own property on Cabo Roig and manage the Cabo Roig Restaurant and the harbour.
